Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in October 2001 by Mrs. Scott's husband, Abraham Scott, and his family members to honor Janice M. Scott who perished in the Pentagon when terrorists crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the building on September 11, 2001. Mrs. Scott was a dedicated advocate for youth and a dedicated supporter of community services within the Washington, D.C. area.

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.; must have a 3.0 or higher GPA; must be enrolling in an accredited US four-year college or univeresity in the fall of 2012; must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community services or other extracurricular activities. Also, the combined adjusted income of the student's parents must NOT exceed $100,000.

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Fund Repayable Scholarship Program

The Stonewall Jackson Memorial Fund is used to award several repayable scholarships each year. It is a repayble no-interest loan which must be repaid after graduation from college. One year after graduation, recipients will be contacted to repay the scholarship amount under a scheduled repayment system set up by the individual. To qualify, applicants must submit an essay of 1,500 - 2,500 words on a topic or issue that relates to the life of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. A bibliography of sources must accompany the essay, but this is not to be included in determining the length of the essay. Applicants must also submit an application form with necessary personal information. Plagiarized or copied essays will be disqualified. First-place winner will receive $3,000; second-place, $2,000; and, third-place, $1,000. Application deadline: April 1, 2012! For further information, call 334-242-4364. State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship Program

The State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship provides financial assistance to high school seniors who plan to attend college, technical, or vocational school, but who may not be able to meet the expenses of a higher education without such aid and often do not qualify for scholarships. Applicants for this scholarship must meet all of the following criteria:

Must be a high school senior who will graduate at the end of the 2011-12 school year.

Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire 2012-2012 academic year.

Have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 to 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Be a U.S. citizen.

Demonstrate financial need.

Calhoun County Farmers Federation Scholarship

The Calhoun County Farmers Federation is sponsoring two $2,000 college scholarships for students planning to pursue a course of study in agriculture or a related field. Requirements for applicants are as follows:

Wal-Mart and Walton Family Foundations Scholarship

The Sam Walton Community Scholarship provides around $3,000 to graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA and a demonstrated financial need.

The Walton Family Foundation Scholarship provides around $13,000 (paid out over four years) to applicants who are dependents of WalMart Associates, have at least a 22 ACT
or 1030 SAT and a demonstrated financial need.

The Wal-Mart Associate Scholarship awards around $3,000, nonrenewable. Students must have a 2.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need. This Scholarship is open to employees of Wal-Mart Stores or dependents of Wal-Mart Associates.

The application deadline is in January. Check the website for details at www.walmartfoundation.org.

ACT Poster Contest Scholarship

This is a national poster contest in which students must design a poster (including visuals and tag line) that, from your perspective, encourages students to attend college and to take the ACT as their college-entrance exam.

You can get the Official Entry Form and complete list of Official Rules on ACT's website at www.actstudent.org/postercontest. Enclose the completed Official Entry Form with your poster and mail it to: ACT Poster Contest (11), 500 ACT Drive, Iowa City, IA 52243.

The first-place award is a $5,000 scholarship to a college of choice.

The Horatio Alger Alabama Scholarship is funded through the generosity of the Walter and Suzanne Scott Foundation. The Horatio Alger Alabama Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the State of Alabama who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue education. To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Alabama Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

be enrolled full time as a high-school senior in Alabama, progressing normally toward graduation and planning to enter college no later than the fall 2012.

have a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited institution located in the U.S. (students may start at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution).

Ron Brown Scholarship Program

The Ron Brown Scholarship Program seeks to identify African-American high-school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically; exhibit exceptional leadership potential; participate in community service; and, demonstrate financial need. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen. Each year, a minimum of ten students will be designated a Ron Brown Scholar and will receive $10,000 annually for four years.

The Ron Brown Scholar Program has two application deadlines:
November 1, 2011 - This application will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program AND forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers.
January 1 - Final postmarked deadline in order to be considered for only the Ron Brown Scholars Program.

The Smith Scholarship Foundation is aimed at Alabama's first-generation college student and takes into account the student's life, obstacles overcome, and the student's devotion to family and community. To qualify for this scholarship, students must have a C+ or better GPA. Students should have taken the ACT/SAT, but no minimum test score is required. Students must write their own essay on their future plans or goals of accomplishments. Students must write their own essay documenting community and civic-oriented activities or assistance to family members. Students must provide three personal recommendations from teachers, counselors, a member of a volunteer organization, professional or family members. Students must provide a copy of the previous year's tax return for anyone in their household that files a tax return, with Social Security numbers whited out. This scholarship is for students facing significant financial burdens due to the loss of a parent (or guardian) to breast cancer or their own breast cancer diagnosis at age 25 or younger. COCA-COLA SCHOLARS PROGRAM - SCHOLARSHIPS

WHEN TO APPLY: The application is now open. Application deadline is October 31, 2011!

WHERE TO APPLY: Go to www.coca-colascholars.org. You must complete, in full, the preliminary online application.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY:
· You must be a senior in high school.
· You must have a 3.0 or above GPA.
· You must be a U.S. Citizen; a U.S. National; or, a U.S. Permanent Resident.
· You must be planning to attend an accredited U.S. college/university.
· You must graduate by May 2012.
· You must not be children or grandchildren of employees, officers, or owners of Coca-Cola bottling companies, divisions, or subsidiaries.

SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW:
· Over 2,200 applicants are usually selected as Semifinalists and are notified by mail and email by December 1.
· Semifinalists will then complete a secondary application that will include essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.
· Semifinalist applications will be due by mid-January.
· Then, the Program Review Committee will select 250 Finalists to advance to the final interview phase. The notifications are sent out in mid-February.
· In April 2012, 250 Finalists will be invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. Then, 50 students will be selected as National Scholars and will receive awards of $20,000 for college. 200 students will be designated as Regional Scholars and will receive $10,000 for college.

ACEF's "Get Lifted College Tour"

The Anniston Community Education Foundation is accepting applications from juniors and seniors for their "Get Lifted College Tour," scheduled for October 10-14, 2011. To be eligible, students must have the desire to attend a two- or four-year college or university and must have parental/guardian permission. Colleges to be visited on the tour include the following: Gadsden State Community College; Alabama A&M University; UAB; University of Montevallo; The University of Alabama; Shelton State Community College; Auburn University; Alabama State University; and, Tuskegee University. There is no cost for the trip; however, students are encouraged to bring spending money. Participants will be randomly selected by lottery from among the applicants who submit forms by 5:00 p.m. on September 2, 2011.
