West Anniston Foundation Scholarship

If you are a current or former resident of the West Anniston Community and a current high school graduating senior (must apply for financial aid), you are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Application deadline is April 1, 2013!  Applications are available in Ms. Knight's office.

DAR Scholarship

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution are offering their DAR Scholarship again this year.  The application packet must be mailed in one envelope to the national chairman.  Application must be received by February 15, 2013!  See Ms. Knight for the application.

Alabama Power Foundation Scholarships


The Alabama Power Foundation has established more than 40 endowed scholarships at most state universities and colleges.  These scholarships are awarded directly by the colleges and universities.  Information on application procedures can be obtained by contacting the Financial Aid Office at the colleges and universities.

The University of Alabama Department of Art and Art History Scholarship

The Department of Art and Art History at The University of Alabama is offering three full-tuition academic scholarships to incoming freshmen who plan on majoring in studio art or art history.  The scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the student's work and are contingent upon the student's admission to The University ofAlabama for fall 2013.  The student must declare a major in art or art history.

Eligibility:

  • Candidate must be  an incoming freshman majoring in Studio Art or Art History at The University of Alabama.
  • Candidate must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and a 20 or higher ACT score.
  • Recipient must be enrolled full-time in a Studio Art or Art History degree program at The University of Alabama.

Liz McCall Oxford Life Scholarship

As a life-long Oxford resident, a student deeply involved in the life of Oxford High School as student body President and head cheerleader, a graduate of Oxford High School, and a mom who sent her children and grandchildren there, Liz McCall was all about life in Oxford.  This scholarship is offered by Liz McCall's family to honor her memory by helping those who have also centered their lives around Oxford High School and its community, and whose life has been shaped by being a part of that great tradition.

As a candidate for this scholarship, the student must be in compliance with the following guidelines, and submit a complete application packet by March 15 to Ms. Knight.  Incomplete packets will not be considered.  The scholarship will be no less than $500 and will be paid directly to the recipient for his/her personal needs toward college.  The selection of the winner/decision of the judges is final.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You must be a life-long resident of Oxford, AL (Living away and returning disqualifies you as a candidate.)
  • You must have at least a 2.75 GPA (Transcript must be included in application.)
  • You must be deeply involved in OHS activities (Include a list of involvement grade 7 to present.)
  • You must include a list of your involvement in service to the Oxford community.
  • You must describe your college plans.
  • You must write an essay of 500 words or less explaining how being a part of Oxford has helped you determine your life plan, and how this scholarship will help you toward that goal.)
  • You must include two letters of recommendation (1 from school personnel; 1 from a community leader)
  • You must attach a recent photo and submit all information in a folder or large envelope.

Linly Heflin Scholarship

REMINDER:  The Linly Heflin Scholarship is available for a limited number of Alabama young ladies who will be attending a four-year Alabama college this fall.  Applicant must have a minimum 23 ACT score; have a good academic record; and, significant economic need.  This $3,000 scholarship is renewable for four years.  Go to www.linlyheflin.org for further information and for the scholarship application.  Application deadline:  Postmarked by January 11, 2013!  Applications are also available in Ms. Knight's office.

Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama Scholarships

The Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama has announced its new website link which offers students and their parents some helpful tools in applying for college and scholarships.  "Scholarship Central" is an interactive, internet site designed to give students and parents information on available local, regional, and national scholarships as well as information on local colleges and their scholarship offerings.

There are two scholarships for which Oxford High School students can apply:

  • Evans Litigation Scholarship
  • H.T. and Terrell Stanford Scholarship.
You can find the guidelines for these scholarships on their website, as listed below.

CollegeImprovement.org End-of-Year Cash Scholarship

CollegeImprovement.com has announced up to four $2,500 college scholarships for the end of the 2012 year.  Applicant must have been accepted to a university, community college, or technical/trade college.  Request an application or apply online at http://www.collegeimprovement.org/collegescholarship.html.  Application deadline:  December 15, 2012!

B. Davis Scholarship

Creators of the "Student Award Search Aid" website are renewing this scholarship for 2013.  Go to http://www.studentawardsearch.com/scholarships.htm to read about the site and to apply for this scholarship.  You can also browse through the rest of the site to learn more about applying for other scholarships.  Application deadline:  May 27, 2013!  Scholarship amount is $1,000.

Arthur Ross Foundation Scholarship

Arthur M. Freeman Health Careers Scholarship

B.B. Comer Teacher Education Scholarship

Alabama Crime Victim Dependent Scholarship

Academic Affairs Scholarship

Albert L. Thomas Scholarship for Eagle Scouts

BE&K Scholarship

This scholarship is for incoming freshmen who will be attending UAB's School of Engineering and majoring in Engineering.  Student must demonstrate high academic achievement.  Contact the School of Engineering at UAB for further information.

Ann Barr Honorary 4-H Club Scholarship

Alabama Teachers Credit Union Scholarship

The Alabama Teachers Credit Union is again offering its Synced Seniors Scholarship.  Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to selected students.  The following requirements must be met:

  • Applicant must be an ATCU Synced member in good standing;
  • Must be a high school senior with at least a 2.0 GPA;
  • Must be accepted as a full-time student at an accredited college, university, or seminary;
  • Must provide ATCU with one letter of reference from a non-relative;
  • Must submit a one-page essay describing a challenge you have overcome;
  • Must complete and submit the scholarship application.
Submission deadline is April 15, 2013!  Winners will be notified April 30, 2013!

Gadsden State Community College Scholarships

Honors Scholar Program:
Applicants to GSCC Honors Scholar Program will be accepted into the program based on high school or lifelong achievement, test scores, and community or school activities and leadership.  The following test scores will be used as benchmarks for admission into the Program.  However, students may be admitted based on other exceptional achievement or service, as follows:
  • A high school ranking in the top15% of the graduating class.
  • A 3.50 or above GPA.
  • A 25 ACT Composite Score or 1200 SAT (math & verbal).
The BENEFITS for being in the Honors Scholar Program are as follows:
  • Scholarships will be awarded annually to students who will be designated as Honors Scholars.
  • Students who fulfill the requirements will be designated as "Honors Scholar" on the graduation diploma.
  • Honors Scholars will be able to register the day before official registration begins.
  • Honors Scholars will have the opportunity to be paired with special faculty mentors.  Mentors will be GSCC faculty or administrators, and pairings will reflect a student's interests and goals.  The mentors will serve as special advisers for student schedules, academic mentorship, professional mentorship, internships, etc.
  • Honors Scholars will be presented with special commencement medallions to wear during graduation exercises.
  • A special Honors Scholar area will be available on the Wallace Drive and McClellan campuses.  This area will be open to Honors Scholars and accompanying friends.  Internet access, television, couches, and study carrels will be available.

Academic Scholarships:
These scholarships are based on academic achievement; rank in class; and, academic competitions.  A minimum 3.0 GPA is recommended, and if submitted, ACT scores are considered.  Recipients receive partial to full tuition awards.


Ambassador Scholarships:
These scholarships are available for students who agree to work as representatives of the College.  Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA; academic merit; club/organization participation; and, extracurricular activity.  You must submit a 500-word essay expressing how life experiences have contributed to your preparation to become a GSCC Ambassador.  In addition, the selection process may include an interview with the Ambassador Selection Committee.


Athletic Scholarships:
These scholarships are awarded to students who excel in various sports.  Interested students should contact the GSCC Athletic Department by calling (256) 549-8310.  Scholarships are available for males in the following sports:  baseball; basketball; tennis; and, managers.  Scholarships are available for females in the following sports:  basketball; cheerleading; cross country; softball; volleyball; and, managers.


Alabama Automotive Manufacturers Association (AAMA) Dr. Bernard J. Schroer Scholarships:
These scholarships are facilitated through the Consortium for Alabama Regional Center for Automotive Manufacturing (CARCAM), supporting individuals pursuing a career/technical education certificate or associate degree in the Alabama College System in preparation for a career in the automotive manufacturing industry.  Scholarship application is available at www.carcam.org.


Ayers Employee Fund:
These scholarships are available for students taking courses on the Ayers Campus.  Priority is given to students in declared majors and those within one semester of graduation.  A 2.5 GPA is required.


Barry Boatwright Memorial Scholarship:
This scholarship provides tuition to students in a science-related major and is awarded annually by the Science Department.


James L. Brown Free Enterprise Scholarship:
This scholarship provides assistance to a rising sophomore business student.  This scholarship is awarded annually by the Business Department as funds are available.


Buffalo Rock Endowment Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded for fall and spring semesters to a deserving student.  Student must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA.


Bush Memorial Endowment Scholarship:
This scholarship is awarded for one term to a deserving student.  A minimum 2.5 GPA is required.




2013 Smith Scholarship Program

The Smith Scholarship Foundation is designed to fund college scholarships for deserving students throughout Alabama.  Special consideration is given to applicants who would be the first in either their mother's or father's (or both parents') families to attend college.  However, it is not a requirement that applicants be the first in their family to attend college.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants have the option to scan supporting documents and submit it with their on-line application.  This is the preferred method for providing documents.
  • If you cannot attach your supporting documents, you can mail them to the Smith Foundation.  You must send all information in one envelope.  Make sure your name is on each item.  DO NOT USE STAPLES.
  • A copy of your transcript must be included.
  • Student must have a minimum "C" average.
  • ACT or SAT scores should be attached or mailed.  No minimum test score is required for this scholarship.  If the test has not been taken yet, please provide the expected test date.
  • You must write your own essay on your future plans or goals of accomplishment for yourself.  The essay must be written by the applicant only.  It may be reviewed by a teacher, but the applicant must be the author.
  • You must provide 3 personal recommendations from teachers, counselors, a member of a volunteer organization, professional, or family members.  You will be prompted to provide the address, email and phone number of the person providing the recommendation.  Each person will automatically receive an email from the Smith Foundation requesting the recommendation.
  • You are required to provide a copy of pages (1) and (2) of the previous year's tax return for anyone in your household that files a tax return.  Please redact (remove with black marker or white-out) all social security numbers.

2013 PDK Prospective Educator Scholarship Program

The PDK Educational Foundation annually awards scholarships to prospective educators.  This scholarship is for high-school seniors who intend to attend college and major in education and whose application is submitted to the local PDK chapter for consideration.

James M. Hoffman Scholarship Fund

Wells Fargo Bank, Trustee of the fund, has partnered with the Center for Scholarship Administration to handle the James M. Hoffman Scholarship Fund.   This scholarship is awarded based on financial need and scholastic ability.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be high school seniors attending a high school located in Calhoun County, Alabama.
  • Applicants must have a 2.0 or higher GPA through the fall 2012 semester.
  • Applicants must be without financial means or other assistance to obtain college educations without undue hardships on themselves or their parents.
Scholarship Specifics:
  • Recipients may attend any accredited public or private college, university, or technical college.  The recipient's school of choice must be exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Scholarships are for one year only and must be used in the year they are awarded.

First Scholars Program at The University of Alabama

The First Scholars Program is available to 24 first-time freshmen who are first-generation college students (parents have no more than two years of education beyond high school and no post-secondary degree) who will be enrolled at The University of Alabama full-time during the 2013-2014 academic year.  

The recipients will participate in a comprehensive support program including academic, social, personal development, and financial awards of $5,000 each, half disbursed in the fall semester and half disbursed in the spring semester.  This award is renewable, if program requirements are met.  This scholarship requires the recipients to live on campus for the 2013-2014 academic year and outside of the family home the following three academic years in order to renew the scholarship.

Selection Criteria:

  • Student must be a first-time freshman who has applied and been admitted to The University of Alabama for the 2013-2014 academic year.
  • Complete the Student Strengths Inventory (instructions will be given once the application has been received).
  • Demonstrate financial need and complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by March 1, 2013.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or qualified non-citizen as defined by federal law.
  • Be eligible for in-state tuition.
  • Submit scholarship application and all materials by February 1, 2013.
Students selected to be a First Scholar must:
  • Agree to attend a First Scholars Orientation.
  • Agree to live in the First Scholars Living Learning Community in Burke Hall their freshman year.
  • Agree to enroll in designated BCE 101 course for First Scholar Scholarship recipients during the fall 2013 semester.
  • Participate in service projects and agreed upon campus activities/workshops.
  • Agree to attend designated meetings with First Scholars Program Coordinator.
  • Participate in mentoring program.
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA.
  • Transition to leadership roles as upperclassmen.
